Chronic Body Odor

Dealing with Chronic Body Odor...

Chronic Body odor is an embarrasing problem. This can be caused by many thing including perspiration, a hormonal imbalance, bacteria, or even diet. Body odor carries a social stigma, but it can be eliminated. The first thing a person can do is make sure he or she is maintaining proper hygience. Daily showers and baths with soap can go a long way in preventing body odor. Wearing anti-perspirant deodorant also goes along with preventing or eliminating body odor. If a person finds that this is not working, he or she should try washing more frequently and/or switching deodorants and soaps.

If a person finds that washing more often and with different types of soap and using deodorant is not working, he or she needs to next look at his or her diet. Diet influences everything in the body including its odors. Diets high in red meat, processed meats, onions, garlics, and fried foods have been shown to cause chronic body odor. If this is the culprit, a person needs to reduce and if possible eliminate those foods. Those foods should be substituted for grains, vegetables, fruits, and foods that are high in fiber. A body that is given healthier foods will most likely smell better.

If hygiene and diet has been changed, and a person is still suffering from chronic body odor, the person should be seen by a physician. This could be a sign of a hormonal imbalance. A doctor will perform a thorough exam and order blood work to determine the source of the problem. A person may need medication to control the hormonal imbalance, which will in turn control the body odor. Body odor is something that is socially unacceptable, but it does not have to ruin a persons life. Hygiene, diet, and even a physician can help a person get rid of his or her odor.
